The outside world is hot. I'm inside at the computer thinking about: gardening and writing, achieving and dawdling. After much thinking, dreaming and reading I've scraped into the blog world. My interest in these endeavours was fired by discovering the creative community of crafty bloggers and much as I've enjoyed reading and observing I don't feel it is my world to contribute to. I just don't create enough to warrant a regular blog. I do however, garden. And I probably love gardening and create vegetables and plants in much the same way the crafty ladies, knit up, sew up and write up their creations. So, I begin my weblog about my life, my family, my desires, achievements, disappointments, written up through the labours of an active gardener.
It has been a hot, dry summer. Forecast for today and most of this week is mid to high 30s. Not sure how that translates into Fahrenheit. Certainly it has been a hotter year on average and, for us Australians, a drier year. The resulting water restrictions presented me with some hurdles, as did the 4 days of frosts (??) in November which killed all my carefully nurtured bean, tomato, and pumpkin seedlings. All replanted and up and running again, though now 4-6 weeks behind last years' growth. As long as Canberra does not experience stage 4 water restrictions, I should be able to harvest a respectable crop. We'll have to see. Time and nature and my labours will tell. So, to kick off this blog and my endeavours I'll start and finish with this....
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait. (H.W.Longfellow, A Psalm of life)
